Flax seed contains omega 3 + 6 fatty acids and dietary fibre, which if you know anything about nutrition is a very good start. There may be further benefits however, as clinical research shows that certain compounds within them may stunt the growth of certain tumors. Flax seeds our also our dietary friend as they contain lignan, which is an antioxidant. Finally, they are full of dietary fiber, meaning that it takes a long time for your body to digest them. The benefits of this are two-fold. Firstly it provides a slow release of energy, and secondly, it brings down the glycemic index of other foods you eat by adding dietary fibre to the ‘digestive mulch’ within your stomach. You don’t need to eat these things by themselves though, they are perfect for sprinkling over things to create an extra flavour dimension.
