A tasty in-between snack

Feeling hungry?  The umami flavours in this little salad will pick you up.  And it looks nice in a little white bowl.  Use as a little snack in between meals if you get hungry. The umami flavours encased in this snack will satisfy your taste-buds, think sweettangy, salty, and satsfying.  Fennel seed is the perfect accompaniment to both ingredients, it contributes and enhances both the sweetness of the cabbage, and the saltiness of the cheese.

Ingredients:

  • 100g of pickled red cabbage, chopped
  • 100g of good feta cheese
  • 5-10 fennel seeds
  • Peppercorns (black or mixed)

Preparation:

Pour away the excess fluid from the cabbage if there is any, then place in a bowl

Crumble the feta cheese over the top

Sprinkle the fennel seeds over this

Coarsely grind some black or mixed peppercorns or over the top (to taste)

Couldn’t be simpler.

Why?

The protein and fat in the feta cheese will contribute to helping you feel full.

Here are some links to the nutrition information for each ingredient:

Red cabbage (unpickled) – we don’t have nutrition information for picked red cabbage 🙁

Feta cheese

Fennel seed – Remember that we’re only using a tiny weight of fennel seed so don’t b e alarmed about the calories (all seeds are actually very nutritious, and those lovely flavours we all enjoy are actually the plant’s chemical defences)

Pepper/peppercorns
